Default 2001 Maxima won't idle

2001 Maxima SE 20th Anniv 5 speed

Was idling and running perfectly then all of a sudden would not idle any more. Engine shuts off abruptly just below 1000 rpm but still runs fine if you keep it revved up. Codes P0430 and P0140 have been locked in for a while but never affected driveability before. I've seen several posts about electronic engine mounts shorting out and damaging IACV and ECM but my car does not have the electronic mounts (manual trans).

Any ideas?

2 common reasons for stalling on that car are IACV and MAF. I would start by cleaning the MAF to see if that helps.

The MAF was clean. I did a resistance check on the IACV and got 23 ohms at pins 4-5-6 and 6.7 ohms at pins 1-2-3 (spec is 22 ohms). I replaced the IACV and that solved the problem. The car is idling fine again. Thanks mpe235.

I think you lucked out. The shorted stepper motor windings can blow out the driver chip in the engine computer.
Depending how the the driver chip fails, it can then blow out the new idle air control stepper motor.
I am midway through a major meltdown of my Maxima, and appreciate both here and Maxima.org. After the money dust settles, donations going out to all., with tech details. I am current here, and thought I donated to the other site.
Hey guys don't leech, this isn't music.
In other forums I have found it is good to go back to your posts and put solved in the subject line. It really helps to google "IACV Maxima Solved"
