Default 2K2 Maxima -high idle,missing,surging - HELP

My recently purchased 5sp SE 135k kilometers needs some TLC. Problem is what, though? The car runs fine when cold but once heated up idles at 1000 RPM, misses intermittently (light or hard acceleration), sometimes real bad and surges on light pedal pressure. I have a P0507 which is high idle. Have had P0300 but have cleared it and not returned. I would appreciate some tips on what to look for.

Thanks in advance,

Martin , 2k2 5SP

Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure
1) Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2) Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
3) Confirm the accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
4) Repeat the following procedure quickly 5 times within 5 seconds.
1) Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
2) Fully release the accelerator pedal.
5) Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL goes off.
6) Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL goes off.
7) Start engine and let it idle.
8) Wait 20 seconds.
9) Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

try doing this idle relearn it shouldnt idle at 1k, p300 is a random misfire so u would either need to do a tune up(spaprks maybe coils) or to trouble shoot them.you could try swapping coils and see how it does. its a lil trickyon our engine since u would have to remove the intake manifold to get to the rear sparks but i can get a write for that if u want and u can find more info in the Engine Control section of the service manual here i the link Knowledgebase - 2002 Maxima - Nissanhelp.com

here is the write up for spark plugs http://www.nissanhelp.com/diy/maxima...eplacement.htm

2002 5sp sounds strange. Either it's not 2002 or not 5speed. If it's not 2002 (the engine is not 3.5L), the above procedure can't be performed. Search how to do it on 2000-01 max (I can't help in this area). Regarding the other issues, the most popular culprits are old plugs, faulty ignition coils, clogged air filter, vacuum leaks, bad MAF. With a 2000-01 max you have great advantage not having to remove an intake manifold to get to the coils and plugs

Sorry for the confusion. My previous max was a 2000 5SP. My mind has not swung over to thinking 6 speeds yet. So Borriss you are a sharp cookie.

Sergey85, I will do the programming you described and get back. Just finished stabilizer bar links - nice now. But the &*%$!! are hard to remove with all the rust and cramped space, and get this, Nissan does not put new nuts in the bag!!. What a bunch!

Ok. I did the idle speed reprogramming and came up empty handed. The idle is still 1000 RPM. But I did get the MIL to flash! I have not checked the timing. Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Martin
