Snap-on is probably the best on the market.
If you are looking for tools to use in your garage at home craftsman will work fine. They have a lifetime warranty and are easy to get replaced. They don't carry as much selection as mac or snap -on but they usually have enough to get the job done.

None of the above. I get Great Neck from Auto Zone and JC Whitney. Inexpensive and durable. As hard on equipment as I am, I have learned to appreciate tools like those.
I can't begin to tell you how many of the rest of those I've broken over the years. Also it's a good idea to get your hands on a set of striker wrenches. They're made to be hit with a hammer to free up stuck nuts and bolts. Add a little heat and you're in business. Wrenches and sockets are just the beginning of the tools you need.
