Buy Craftsman. Good price and last longer.

Snap-on is probably the best on the market.
If you are looking for tools to use in your garage at home craftsman will work fine. They have a lifetime warranty and are easy to get replaced. They don't carry as much selection as mac or snap -on but they usually have enough to get the job done.

I have a lot of Snap-on and Craftsman stuff... but I recently bought a small Kobalt set for a portable toolbox (for my vehicle) and I must admit they seem like the real deal. Not sure if they would hold up to heavy mechanic use but they are really nice for the occasional car project.

None of the above. I get Great Neck from Auto Zone and JC Whitney. Inexpensive and durable. As hard on equipment as I am, I have learned to appreciate tools like those.

I can't begin to tell you how many of the rest of those I've broken over the years.

Also it's a good idea to get your hands on a set of striker wrenches. They're made to be hit with a hammer to free up stuck nuts and bolts. Add a little heat and you're in business.

Wrenches and sockets are just the beginning of the tools you need.
