Default Fuel Gauge

I have a 2005 nissan frontier crew cab and my service engine soon light has been coming on when the fuel gets low in tank. took to autozone and the code shows the fuel voltage regulator is bad. Just filled up today after running the tank to almost empty and now the fuel gauge only shows half full and the service engine light is staying on. what is the problem and how do I fix. is it a tough job.

Sorry about the mileage thing but i guess it's out of pocket for the repair.Atleast it's not to hard to drop the fuel tank on this model.

why would the voltage sending regulator be in the gas tank. aren't some models on the back side of the instrument cluster.

The part you need is the fuel level sensor. It is attached to the side of the fuel pump in the tank. It costs around $90.00.
