Unhappy Torque Converter stalls engine

I just replaced a torque Converter on my 2001 VG33ER sc Frontier 4x4. I can not get it to idle in drive or reverse. It idles fine in park or nutral but otherwise stalls. If it does run only when cold it runs at 300-400 RPM and anything higher makes the whole truck vibrate like I'm trying to pull a house. Any ideas what could cause this besides the torque converter?

Why did you replaced the torque converter? How is the transmission fluid level? Are there any code stored in the ECM?

I don't remember having that prooblem before, but low fluid or a bad signal from the turbine revolution sensor can cuase the same problem.

Wink

I replaced it because I had a tearible leak when after removing the transmission found it hanging on to the flywheel with only one bolt. I replaced the flex plate due to the damage it caused having loose bolts for a very long time. One by one the bolts disapeared. I found that the guid pin in the torque converter was totaly broken off causing the leak. How do you check the state of the turbine sensor? I have no codes in the computer. Is there a way to put a hole in the floor to replace the turbine sensor?

Thanks funny, but don't need to remove the trans, lowering the end of the trans will give you enough space to remove the sensor.

Default Turbine sensor

Hi, there are two. The Turbine Revolution Sensor Forward and the rear Revolution Sensor on the 4x4 Re4R01A trans. The forward one is on the very front left side of the pump housing on the top of the trans. It is about 8" long so removing it without dropping the trans or cutting a hole is out of the question. You may be refering to the Revolution Sensor at the rear of the trans which is only 4" long. The picture shows the wire from the Turbine Rev Sensor to be going to the Shift plate on the passenger side when actualy on my trans it goes to the top center of the bellhousing and has a terminal there which is imposible to get too and it is covered with a metal shroud making it even more difficult to disconnect it. At 274 smackers I'm thinking it well.
