2006 Nissan Frontier - won't start
I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier that started fine yesterday morning but wouldn't start last night. Battery is fully charged and less than 2 years old. All the lights and radio work, but when you turn the key it does nothing. Any ideas?

Read voltage across the battery 10 seconds into trying to start. Post that voltage, not the no-load voltage.
If it reads 12+ volts, then the ignition switch/circuit is not getting power to your starter. If it reads less than 9.6 volts, bad battery, don't care if it's only 2 years old. |

You don't say if you have an auto trans or MT. I assume the issue is no crank (it is different than no start). A quick way to check for battery issues is to turn the headlights on and then turn the key to the start position, if the lights come on and stay bright it's a start circuit issue. if they go dim or out it's a battery or connection issue.
MT models ave clutch pedal engaged switches that interrupt the start command and AT models have neutral safety switches that interupt the start command (that 's why it matters). |

Good idea. On my '98 5-speed you need to press the clutch pedal down further to get the starter to engage than you would just to change gears.
One time Mrs. Cusser forgot this and walked 3 miles home. |

It's automatic, headlights stay bright when key turned!

Try putting the Trans selector in N and cranking. If that doesn't work you will need to get a test light or a DVM and start troubleshooting the circuit. I can walk you thru it if you need help.

Still doesn't start in neutral! Gonna add this too. Before the starting issue I was driving it and our of no where wouldn't shift and then stopped at a light an wouldn't go into hear at all! Had to be pushed out of intersection to a gas station! Wet back later that night when traffic died down to tow home, started it and it drove home fine no slipping nothing. The next morning is web it wouldn't start! Any connections? Any ideas?

Ok, got it started by jumping over the starter. Now it goes into reverse but barely moves in drive! Ideas?

Check your fluid level and look for red foam in the radiator if you have the foam you have the infamous trans cooler leak and the trans is probalby shot. If no foam and fluid level is ok you will need to interrogate the ECM for further actions.

No foam, just had transmission fluid drained and refilled a month ago!

Sounds like the transmission valve body is bad ,scan vehicle and see if any transmission codes ,the valve body is electronic and can only be replaced as a unit ,not hard to replace if lift is available, some may say transmission needs to be rebuilt,no need to rebuild if fluid is clean and red and has been maintained,if doing yourself the bolts in valvebody are different lengths and some sort of service manual should be consulted for torque and bolt locations the vehicle goes into limp mode when there is transmission fault

I'm having the same problem with my 2006 frontier. Is there any tutorials or videos showing how this is done?

There was a member at the forums "thenissanpath.com" who fixed his issues by dropping the valve body, removing the TCM from the valve body and cleaning the sludge he found under the TCM on the electrical circuits. You should be able to find it in the R51 forums with a little searching. Solenoids can also be an issue and can be replaced, if you can find them available online (Nissan doesn't sell them separately for this trans). If replacing the entire valve body/TCM assembly, it must be taken to a Nissan dealer afterwards for programming to the vehicle.
