Default 2003 frontier 2.4 engine

I have a problem with my air conditioning. Compressor kicking off every few seconds. I heard the system has a low pressure switch. So I bought a
a charging kit with pressure gauge. I was told to run engine at 2000 rpm with air on full the compressor kicked on and off every 5 seconds ambient temp at 75 degrees. This will wear the clutch soon. Is there such a thing as too much pressure? I did'nt think there was a high pressure switch. just a pop off valve. At highway speed how will this affect the system. Seems to be running at 42 lbs. Low side.

Not to sound like a total prick, but attempting your own a/c work is not exactly amateur night at the Apollo. You need to bite the bullet and take it to someone who knows what's what.

I will assume your system is a R134 system since you did not have any problems getting the generic can to fit on the charge port. with that being said your system may also have a high pressure switch as well. if the low side is running at 42 psi that sounds a little high (but then again you are running the engine at 2000 rpm). The cheapo gauges that come on the cans you buy at the local part store are not known for being accurate. I would look real close at both switches ( disconnect the wires and clean contacts) because when the system is working correctly the switches on the the cold side sweat and make corrosion. If it comes down to replacing said switch look real close and you may want to call your dealer to confirm some makers install check valves under them so you can replace the switch without loosing the charge on the system. If you don't have the check valves take it somewhere so they can recycle the refrigerant. This may save you some money and possibly an injury as well because you are dealing with a system under pressure and even as low as 42 psi sounds the stuff coming out can cause frostbite or worse blown into an eye you will loose that eye.

After years of doing AC work, your symptom sounds like a low pressure switch cutout. There are several reasons with the most obvious being low refrigerant level. You need to put a full gauge set on it to really know what is going on. I'm in agreement with deeznuts - unless you have the skills/experience, AC work is best left for the pros. jlg

I found out i had to much freion in the system high pressure switch was kicking off the compressor. I did'nt know it had a high pressure switch. Reduced low side pressure side. Now pressure changes from add freion at 2,000 rpm to don't add at idle. Compressor almost never kicks off. Taht's what i was hunting for. Some people may say my air ain't cold enough, their wimps. Sounds like ALL GORE types.
I solved this problem all on my own. I guess most people are stupid. like the ones who can't cut there own grass, or change there own oil. there's way to many of them out there

So the million dollar question is:
How did all that extra R134 get in there in the first place!

(Hint: it didn't self manufacture)
