P0430 code possible cheap fix
2005 Frontier CC 4x4 4.0 v6
had ses code P0430 (catalyst bank 2). Cleared codes, disconnected battery, nothing worked, ses kept coming back on. Was getting rready to replace O2 sensors (bank 2). Then the ratchet mechinism on gas cap broke. Prior to that, cap appeared to seal OK. Replaced with new gas cap. ses light went out after about 75 miles and hasn't come back on. go figure. |

I brought my Pathfinder into the Nissan Dealer because I was getting a SES light. When they pulled the code it was P0430 which I was told was the passenger side front converter. They also said that this could be triggered if I was in need of a tune up. I had already changed spark plugs and had my injectors cleaned within the last several weeks so they said that pointed to the converter which they wanted $940 to replace. I purchased a direct fit aftermarket converter and had it installed for about $475 combined, but guess what, the light is back on with the same code. I'll be very upset if I change my gas cap and it goes away after spending almost $500 on something I probably didn't need.

P 430 code
Sorry to hear that. Not trying to ruin your day, but Bank 2 is the Driver's side per the factory service manual. This is based on which side has the the forward most piston. If you look at the spark plugs ignitors on top of the valve covers, you will see that passenger side is closer to the front than the driver's side. The number # 1 plug is the passenger hence "Bank 1". page EC-635 of the Nissan frontier service manual.
Hope you can work something out with your Dealer. |

P0430 code
Ug, shame on me for taking the word of the service writer at the dealer. I did not have them install it, bought it aftermarket and had it installed at and exhaust shop. Before leaving the dealer I did ask for him to confirm that it was the passenger side and he did. Should be a fun conversation

I don't think they'll take the offer... Whatcha' think? By the way, a faulty reading on the POST cat O2 ($75) will 'indicate' that the cat is not working... AND, if you unplug the O2, you could get the same indication - that you need a dealer $940 cat replacement. Which would make - Quote:
