I have a 99 frontier, and have 265,00 mi. on it. Only recently after doing tune up do I have a strange "problem" with it. Low idle at warm. Other than that, It has never failed to start, and has never left me. If I can't remedy the low idle problem, I will live with it.

I have a 00 frontier. Its great that its been running good but wish it had more horse power. Seems the 2k units were made for more tork then daily driving. Also wish the gas mileage was better

everything with a grain of salt
Hey Ray, feel the same way about my '00 4x4 crewcab, but I bought
mine last November with 118k on it. I'd been looking for a 4 cyl 4x4 Kingcab for the last 2-1/2 years, 2000 or newer, when I stumbled into this. It was so well cared for, I figured I'd be a fool to walk away. And I'm nobodies' fool. I knew from previous research that the vg33 6 cyl wasn't exactly a sipper on fuel, and I've been proven right- Best MPG was 16.6 worse-13.9. As is always the case, there is always someone in a worse case situation- I have friends that bought 1999 to 2001 toyota tacomas with V6s, and still complain to this day about 12 city/14 highway MPG. So there is always someone worse off than us. We've also got to remember, compared to what? Before this, I was sweating bullets over a noisy timing chain in a '88 single cab 4x4 toyota 22EFI with 174k on it. Guess i got my moneys' worth outa that! It's probably still going, since it has synthetic in it. And to add insult to injury, I also have a '96 Suzuki Sidekick 2x4 that has the suspension of a horse drawn buckboard; When I get into the Frontier, I feel like I'm drivin' a Cadillac. As far as buying used, I expected and have had to replace some parts- Front brake pads, Clutch master cylinder and it looks like the radiator is starting to weep (winkwink- Can anybody suggest an extra row rad with a good price?), but I can't complain. If you do the normal things to maintain your Fronty, like top of the battery water with distilled, clean the battery posts, change the oil/ filters on a regular basis, ect., it'll take care of you. But this is true of most modern vehicles. Why did I buy a Nissan over a Toyota? Afford-ability. Same year toyotas were going for as high as 12K with the same features here in Phx, Az, with +150k miles. Insanity. Got mine for 5k less. I've owned Nissan 4x4s from the early to mid-eighties and my only gripe was that the trannys were trash @ 120k...Of course, at the time, I was married to a nutcase that trashed trannys. So no offense to Nissan. Loved that Z24 motor! As far as excessive in cab engine noise, when I switched to synthetic motor oil, I noticed a marked decrease in engine noise overall. Just my 2 cents worth. -Ric |

Love it
I've got an 04 XE V-6 4x4, and I love it. Only complaint I have, (not limited to this vehicle) is why the fresh air intake is on the driver's side. Passenger's side wiper goes up collecting all the snow, dumps it right under the descending driver's side wiper, which deposits it directly over the air intake. Powder is sucked in, vaporizes when it touches the heater core, and bingo bango, an instantly fogged windshield. Can't even run recirculate, as the AC cuts out right around freezing (maybe as low a 10 or 20 above), and without the AC, the window fogs up. I recognize Fairbanks presents a unique set of circumstances, but come on, these folks are responsible for designing engines that can run over 350000 miles. Looks like this might finally be changing; I think some of the new Scions have the air intake under the passengers side wiper.

I have an '08 4.0 NISMO 4X4 King Cab 6 speed. Love the truck for the most part. But to be fair I have touch of OCD and like things to be close to perfect. I love the power, Radio, Bluetooth...Blah Blah Blah..
the things I think Nissan could have done better: Body Panel alignment - the hood is visibly over to the left side leaving the gaps between the hood and fender uneven (gap on right side is about 1.5 time the gap on left. - Fog lights are mounted to show gaps that are rather large to the outside, meaning lights are mounted too close together. - Front grill is also further to the left then the right. Transmision - First gear is almost pointless, plus cannot be shifted into unless at a near dead stop (I understand the thought behind locking out first gear untill the vehical is at a safe speed asto not damage the engine or transmission, but come on.) - When cold out 20^f and below it is hard to shift into any gear, even when engine has fully warmed up. Just some things I feel Nissan left out/looked over - For this to be the 'OFF ROAD' monster it seems odd they did not put an outside temp gauge in with all these other functions in the OD display. - I purchased the tech package, and XM is not availible with the 6 speed trans, does Nissan beleive I an not able to shift gears and surf for tunes in the same trip? One would think that without the auto trans computer(s) there would be enough room for the XM control mod. (sorry I am a little burned up about this issue) - The rope tie downs are not standered on the nismo as advertised they'll cost you about $45 (to install use 12mm socket and power ratchet/drill, if done by hand w/ratchet the bolts brake somewhat easy, I broke 3 of the 8 needed each bolt cost $1.85) The gas mileage is not that bad though I'm gettin between 16 and 17 mixed driving. I love how Quiet the cab is, my wife's '07 Honda is much louder. Really, I do still like my truck.

What tie downs are you referring to? On my 08 LE In the rear corners near the tailgate there are two plastic plugs on each side. Those tie downs cost me $8 each with the bolts included. They were standard on the 07 Frontiers.

Clint: Sounds like your dealer gave you a better deal than mine. $45(taxes included) was what I paid for all four tie downs if you haven't found the other two they are about six inches down from the bed rail close to the cab just behind the utili-track.
