Have an '02 altima 3.5se which I bought new.I have been religious in my maintenance including oil and filter changes using german castrol full synthetic oil.In the last 10-12 months I have developed a mysterious oil loss problem with no obvious oil burning symptoms or leakage signs. At this point I am losing about 1 qt. in 2000mi. Car has headers, so not a precat issue.Have read on Nissan Enthusiast Forums that this may be valve cover seal issue around sparkplug well usually on the bank nearest the firewall, the hardest to check without removing intake manifold. Any input?

My 00 Altima (185000 miles) has had a rough idle for for several months now, especially while in gear at Stoplights. I experience alot of vibration and usually after several minutes of idle, the RPMS will drop from 750 to almost 500, as though the engine came under a load. Sometimes a stall will occur. In addition, the SES light has been coming on intermittently on for the past couple of years. Don't remember the exact code but the last time I read it it, it dealt with the Catalytic Converter Efficiency falling below a certain threshold.

I replaced the O2 sensor, Idle control valve, air filter, cleaned the throttle body assembly and replaced the gasket. The problem still exists. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2005 altima and have had service3 times for stauling issues. They have replaced I believe the cam sensor, o2 sensor, and now they are saying the code is cam sensor again. They have run diagnostics for 3 hours and now think it is the ipdm module......Could this have been the problem all along. The sensors have been replaced over the last 2.5 years and the stauling has happened 3 times in that span. They have said in so many words it could have been but highly unlikely and want me to pay 700.00????? I feel that this has been the same issue all along? Am I crazy??

Hey all, i'm new to this forum so pls excuse my brevity.....i have an 03 altima 3.5, and my SES light came on a few days ago. I used my brother in laws scanner (for ford/gmc/chrysler/jeep vehicles only up to year 2000) and it only gave me a p0128 code, which i believe is for a thermostat issue. My questions is whether this code also applies to the ecl sensor as well, or does it just apply to the thermostat issue? Also, how much does it cost for a new thermostat?

Thanks

It has been determined by my mechanic the "check engine soon" light is on due to the catalytic conv. being bad. Although Autozone's machine says it could be that or an O2 sensor. Autozone also stated the machine read the car as running lean. I have checked my mileage and see no change over some 2 years.

Which do I believe? The cost is significant difference.

I my opinion the car is running as well as ever. It just passed an emission sticker test for car tags two months prior to the "check engine soon" light coming on.

And finally, if it does need a Cat. Conv. then will an after market device work as well as a Nissan part. That is to say, in two years will it pass the emisson test with an Aftermarket unit.
Need your advice.

I have a 2002 Altima 4cyl. When I turn the car on it will only stay running for a few seconds and then die. It acts like it wants to keep running but doesn't. If I press down on the gas it dies IMMEDIATELY. I just tried replacing the fuel pump because I had several people tell me that is most likely the problem. Well I just wasted $178 on the fuel pump and it's still doing the same thing. My engine light has been on for quite some time. Nissan said I needed to replace my Camshaft Sensor and my Crank Positioning Sensor, which I did both. I'm still getting a Crank Positioning Sensor Circuit Board error. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. But it sounds fuel related, which is why I went ahead and tried the fuel pump.
Any suggestions???
I've been out of a car for 3 weeks.

My car was in an accident and the front right side of the car was dented (just above the wheel). Whenever you turn the wheel, it makes a grinding noise. After the car was repaired, the steering wheel still makes a noise and the repair shop said that it was due to the power steering reservoir leaking.

I also noticed a couple of days back that the oil was leaking, it might have been the power steering fluid.

Do you know how much it will cost to replace the power steering reservoir (both labor and parts)? Also, is this the actual solution or could it be something else? Is there a test I can do to check whether it's the power steering fluid? Maybe temporarily pour some fluid to see if it will alleviate the problem?

Right now, due to the cold temperature, sometimes the wheel becomes very hard to turn.

Hi
I have a check engine light on my 2000 Nissan Altima GXE. When I took it to a shop they said it shows error code something like P400 or P401. They said itz due to the EGR valve and EGR thermostat. When I looked at some of the comments from various people it might not be the problem with EGR valve or thermostat itz mostly due to the clogging of EGR port under the throttle body. They suggest to clean the port with some solution.
If any one has pictures or diagrams or steps to how to locate this EGR port that would help me lot to finish this one.
I really appreciate for any help.
Thanks
