Tried the procedure I've seen suggested a few places, involving pushing the accelerator in a certain seuuence, then reading out ECM fault codes on the dashboard on a 2003 x-trail TD 2.2 (UK).

My MIL just stayed on permanently.
Now don't know if this means my ECM is faulty or that this procedure isn't good for the UK X-trail TD. A number of the diagnostic systems here will do X-trails but not the YD diesel model.

It would be good to know if procedure should work on a good X-Trail diesel - could someone oblige and try it?

The engine isn't starting so maybe no code will be stored, but still should get some readout.

I have had my 2006 x-trail for only 2 weeks now and since the day I drove it home, it makes a noise similar to that of squeeky bicylce breaks when I reach over 100km/hour. It is extremely unpredictable when the noise starts, how long it lasts, etc. Sometimes it just makes a little peep, other times it lasts for 10 mins...The dealership cannot duplicate the issue...
Any ideas?
