Same exact thing...clunk, or pop pop pop when entering or leaving driveway aprons. My mechanic blamed rusty ball joints and lubricated same externally. They are sealed and supposedly self lubricating...ne-ver a good idea. Will replacing ball joints solve this problem? Mine sounds like it comes from driver's side front also. Nissan is surely aware of this problem, so how about it Nissan? ONE MORE THING: Nissan fails to honor its extended brake warranty for my vehicle and I have had to pay someone to do another front rotor replacement. My legal papers will soon follow for breech of contract...,and I'm not kidding.. I'm tired of manufacturers making warranties they do not honor. 44 gUY |

i also have a 2004 armada. i have had the same problem in the past with the same noise under same conditions. the only thing i found that helped the situation was to tighten the 4 bolts on the skid plate under the engine. the same skid plate that is connected to the front bumper and extends back just far enough to cover the oil filter. i believe the frame is flexing and the noise were are hearing is the bolts sliding laterally in the bolt holes in the skid plate causing a poping sound as the friction between the bold head and skid plate release. after tightening the bolts i hear the noise a lot less often.

Jessie: Thanks for your idea. I already suspected the skid plate and took it off then put it on again, making sure all is tight.
I'm not sure it is this because the noise is getting more frequent. Maybe the whole damned subframe is moving....if this vehicle has a sub frame. I have to look. I thought also of the ball joints....we lubricated them...they have rust on them which we took off. Everything else looks good so far. Now I notice some times the noise seems to radiate along the left side of the frame and I'm wondering if parking brake cable is involved. Somebody must be able to track this down. I'm going to have it put on the lift and have the lift lowered with something under the left wheel, so the suspension goes up as the lift comes slowly down and see if it makes the sound. We'll get to the bottom of this and I will publish on this site if I find out what causes it. Thank you for your interest and reply. nisrjz |
