Default NTB03-070c Recall

I called my dealer to see if there were any recalls on my 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5L. They only came back with the headlamp one and the ECM one. My car seems to have all the symptoms of the recall in this title, the one everyone with this car talks about. Burns oil, low coolant, check engine light has come on and gone off a few times, sounds horrible for about 2 seconds on cold engine start, heater takes a long time to start working and defrost always goes cold on stop.
I took it in and they are saying they did a hvac check and now the engine is running rough which usually means bad head gasket. They're saying one of the spark plugs is stuck so if they keep trying and stip the threads they'll have to pull the head anyway. The compression check on the 3 open plugs didn't show low compression though.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is your Altima within the VIN range specified in the recall notice? If it is then they should test under warranty. Have you done any maintenance on your Altima?

Yes it is in the specified range. I didn't have the document yesterday so I didn't know and when I brought up the possibility of a pre-cat causing the oil consumption the guy at the dealer said he hadn't heard of that and didn't think it was possible since it was downstream of the engine. I've read a lot more since then and I plan to talk to the manager on Monday. I have about 75K miles. I have done just oil changes since I've had it for 2 years now.

You have a very missed informed service manager or they don't want to step up tp the plate and make the repairs. It has been known for a long time about the 'CAT' issues and how they destory the engine. the TSB's on this vehicle is long and listed within this web site. Take a few moments and compile that list and then go back the the dealership and ccomplain,That is if in fact pertain to your vehicle.

So if you had your pre-cat "inspected" and they didn't see anything visibly wrong, then you begin having problems later on down the road, how do you know that they really looked at it? If you start having the problems that are in the re-call do they still have to honor it? I'm thinking not judging from other peoples posts. How do you prove anything when they only have to inspect it?
