Default 2000 Altima Idle problem

Anyone who knows the answer,

I have been reading alot on this site and others regarding intake manifold gasket leaks with Altimas. I have a 2000. I have been having an issue with the idle for the past year. Didn't bother me until recently, when my car started misfiring after being in a car accident. I went through the process of replacing valve cover gasket, spark plugs, wires, distributor, etc... The mechanic even convinced me to replace #4 fuel injector. Misfiring has stopped but idle still a problem. Mechanic now diagnosing the problem as manifold gasket leak. Is there any risk to not doing this repair? Can I just deal with the rough idle and fix later or am I at risk of some other damage to the engine? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Very easy to check with a can of break clean. With a cold engine start and let idle, then spray alittle brake clean around the intake manifold. If theres a leak the idle will increase.

There is a risk if you don't repair it. The cylinder that is sucking in air will run lean and cause a lean misfire. This also causes that cylinder to run hot.

Thanks for the feedback. That is the same info I received from the mechanic after some additional discussion. I will look into the repair in hopes of avoiding a more serious problem.

DO NOT use brake clean to check a intake leak when it is burned it turns into pasgine gas that attacks this nerves and once you got it it is yours for life no cure!!!!!
