Default Horrible gas milage - 06Altima 2.5S

I purchased a "new" 06 Altima 2.5S last year and am very disappointed with the gas milage. It is one of those units which were sent back to the factory for rebuilding due to high oil consumption. I talked to several other owners in the same situation and they also say that they are getting poor gas milage. The dealer checked it out and said that there was nothing wrong. Anyone have any ideas, or should I get rid of the car???

What exactly is your definition of "horrible gas mileage"? Has it always been the same?

Yes, what is your MPG average? If is really that bad you have a gas leak. Any gas smell?

Keeping in mind that these are imperial gallons, at first, we were averaging 27mpg travelling at 65mph on the highway on 600 mile trips. Now after 10k miles, it has steadied aroung 30mpg. The sticker on the car advertised 39mpg (hwy). I realize that figure is under ideal conditions, but talking with other owners of older 2.5 Altimas, they are getting milage in the high 30's. There is no odor or gas leaks.

First of all. That number on the sales sticker, is an average of fuel economy. It's sole purpose is for comparison shopping between different makes and models. There are numbers just below the two larger ones, that actually show what you should expect. Second, those "numbers" are acquired under controlled laboratory conditions. Believe it or not, the "highway" results are attained at speeds much lower than 65mph. Nissan even states, that some test show as much as a 20% drop in fuel economy from 75mph, when compared to those taken at 55mph. How is your air filter? Is tire pressure OK?
