Default 2003 Altima 3.5 liter rough idle and DTC P0021 and P0300

Can anyone help? Private shop tech with 20 years of exp. Nissan Altima with P0021 and PO300. Car has very rough idle. No ground signal to bank 2 intake valve control solenoid. Wires to ecm from intake valve control solenoid, cam and crank sensors ohm out.

In some VQ engines with P0011 or P0021 with a possible P0300 stored and sometimes a cylinder misfire. The cause may be the Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid. If the Intake V.T.C. sprocket is not in the correct position at the correct time because of Solenoid malfunction, incorrect valve timing could occur, causing the symptom.

Look for a cylinder misfire that is isolated to only one bank of cylinders. In your case will be bank 2. Check the function of the Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid for that bank. If is necessary replaced the solenoid valve.

ground signal is provided by the computer. if the wires ohm out properly the problem is probably the computer. you must make sure the solenoid is working and electrically sound because computer outputs are generally not protected. if the solenoid blew the computer you will damage the same output of the new computer with the bad solenoid.

Low engine oil can cause these codes. I would change the oil and see if the codes come back. This is fairly common.

Change your oil first and have the codes cleared.
