did you ever have the crankshaft sensor and the engine speed sensor fixed and if so how much did it cost you?

I have an '05 2.5 that was getting harder to crank and SES light was on. Auto parts store scan suggested crank and cam position sensors. I replaced both at the same time. Removed the battery cables to clear the light and it did. Car started perfectly for two days. Then light came on during driving and car was running a little rough, but intermittently. At lunch it took a very long time to crank. The SES light was still on. Then it would not crank. I had to unplug the crank sensor and it cranked after a long time. I changed both sensors again and reset with the battery cables. It ran perfectly for a day and the entire process was repeated. I changed them out again. Car had run a little hot and I had to add about 3 quarts of coolant/water. It appears to lose about a pint a day, but does not leak. No coolant residue on plugs and oil is clear. No water vapor visible in exhaust. For good measure I flushed the system and changed out the thermostat, water valve and coolant sensor. I removed and inspected the crank and cam position sensors and replaced both. Then I cleared with the battery cables and it cranked on the first try. The process repeated itself until...it would not crank at all. I tried everything, but ended up towing it home on a car dolly. I am out of ideas...

I have a similar issue with my 2005 Altima 2.5, after I have been driving on the highway for few hours. It is difficult to start and requires me to pump the pedal several times while turning the ignition. The service engine light comes on also. After I get back in town, the starting problem goes away and a couple of days later the service engine light goes out. In particular, it has happened when I have driven a few hours and I stop for gas. I had the codes read and they were crankshaft position sensor and engine speed circuit. I find it strange though that they clear up around town, and are only an issue after driving several hours and stopping for gas. I am going to replace the gas cap before I do anything else because of issues I have read about with the gas caps and loss of vacuum in the fuel tank. If anyone has experience with this...pls share.

This was happening to my wife's 2003 Altima, Started great on it's first start and if the car sat for a few hours...if you ran for a quick errand, came back to the car, it would start, but it would take a bit longer than normal....until today, she went to start her car and nothing, keeps turning over but won't start. I pulled the codes on it 0725 (Engine Speed Signal) and 0335 (Crank Shaft Position Sensor) , when she gets back, hopefully I can pick up this part on a Sunday, I will be back and let everyone know how I made out :)

Ok, just finished it...wow! It wasn't that bad once you get an idea how the sensor is positioned. Once you take out the hose from the air box to the throttle body and look straight down after the last intake runner, you can see it and it's not bad at all, no special tools required at all, didn't even need a swivel joint. After I replaced it, and tried to start it, it still wouldn't kick over and I was like "WTF?!?!?" I then erased the codes with my scanner, gave it some gas and it turned over the second time, it did take a bit, but it turned over. Took it for a spin around the block and it ran smooth, before the replaced sensor, the car seemed like it was bogging, like it was starving for fuel, but now the pick up is back to normal.

Oh, I bought the sensor at Auto Zone for $35, and it is the one with the metal housing :) All in all took me about a half hour to finish everything up :)

I have a sentra 2005 SE-R with the same engine and the same problem everything is great no codes exept for the o2 sensor but thats because im running a complete Greedy exhaust with no cats and some other stuff? In the dealership they told me they were the keys and since one is broken I only have one so i have to buy the other one and go to reprogram the whole thing. Can this be the problem?
