Spark Plugs
Spark plugs lasts much longer now than 40 years ago. Iridium and other rare exotic materials are one reason. I will have to replace them someday and the manual says about 100,000 miles. But it doesn't mention how to torque them.
After researching here is what I found. The torque depends on 2 things. #1 ... aluminum cylinder head or iron cylinder head and #2. diameter of the spark plug measured at the threads. In my case 2011 Altima 2.5 s I measured 12 mm spark plug thread diameter. Aluminum cylinder head The part number is : DILKAR6A-11 and is an NGK spark plug. The gap when new is supposed to be right. Correct torque may be indicated on the package. torque for mine is indicated as 10.8 - 14.5 ft lbs. so I set my wrench to 12 ft lbs and was satisfied with that. Don't use any lubricant or anti-seize compound on the threads as this will distort the torque. Make sure the threads are clean. These spark plugs are not cheap I think about $16.50 each. WOW Install them right and sleep well. Last edited by jcg0324; 01-14-2017 at 06:17 PM. |
