Default Ac Clutch/compressor knocking noise

First post - hello all - I have an 08 2.5 Altima sedan with 79000 miles, actually my daughters car, recently it has developed a loud knocking noise when the ac clutch kicks in, the air is good and cold so compressor seems to be working fine, I haven't taken the belt loose yet to check if maybe bearings are wore on idler or clutch, also when accelerating it quietens a little but is definitely still there,I turn off AC and noise goes away, My question is- if I find the clutch/compressor/idler bearing is not causing noise , where would I look next??-

Yes you are in the right direction. A/C compressor are very common problem. The new compressor should take care of the problem. Make sure you recharge the system with exact amount specified by the factory.

sounds like bad bearing(s) in the compressor. Do not let it go to far because it will fail and when it does it will ruin the system internally. You do not want all of the shavings/ parts inside the system. You do not need to remove the belt to check the compressor.
With engine off, reach down and manually turn the clutch on the compressor. If it binds or locks then you will know it is bad.
