I'm a newbie here and just wanted to say thanks for all who are posting. Misery needs company.
I've been to the dealer three times with this issue. Each time the service manager fooled around with the bracket, packed it with stuff, and the noised was somewhat dampened, but returned to it's original loudness. He finally said it was the power steering unit and he can't do anything until there is an official fix. I opened a case with Nissan and received a call today from a guy named John. His response, as you can guess, was "It's normal and it comes from the power steering unit." He also said that the manual states that it's normal. Well, I read the manual and it says you may hear the power steering sound when you make slow turns in a parking lot. I called him out on that, said this happens when you drive in a straight line, and he said it's still normal. I then asked how come some Altimas have the sound others don't. He then said that some people are more sensitive to the sound!!! He then said, rather vaguely, that they are working on a fix. I mentioned that if there isn't a problem and if it's normal, why are you working on a fix? His response: for customer satisfaction! I then said straight out, "so is this how it's going to be?" After he said yes, I hung up. So here it is, months since the first owners started complaining with no resolution in sight. I started the paperwork with the BBB, but I like the car and want it fixed rather than arbitration and going for the lemon laws. The lemon law (here in CA) states that if the problem devalues the car you may have a case (not just safety issues). So after the BBB, what next? I wonder why some Altima owners actually had a tech fly out and fix the problem!!! So if anyone has gotten as far as I have, what next and what will work? I'm guessing most like the car and want this sound gone! This is now a battle royale. I know there are lawyers who specialize in lemon laws, but they won't take your case unless they are quite sure of a win. The dealer must pay you, your taxes, the lawyers, and the attorney fees. The car then gets officially labeled a lemon. I just want the damned thing fixed and not go through with all this. Even though the car is ok except for that noise, no one wants to deal with all this. So what next? Last edited by barry5k; 01-25-2013 at 06:33 PM. |

Multiple noise problem with 2013 altima sedan
I also just recently posted another thread for the similar noise problem. Additionally I had heard few more types of noises from my car. I have been to the dealer 4 times already. Once my car was there for 2 weeks, but the issues were temporarily fixed, now all those noises are back. Here's my thread in case anyone is interested. I'm going to open a case as well with the Nissan Consumer Affairs.

I've had 3 incidents with this new car. Anyone knows how Lemon Law works per state and how can we check it? That would be nice to know. Thanks, |

Here is the status of my car, I took it back to the dealer (5th time), because I had an additional squeaky noise at the rear suspension. They changed the bushing for that. There was very noticeable drumming sound while accelerating the car from low speed, they changed some belt to fix it. My observation to that drumming is suppressed, but I can still feel mild drumming. I still hear the front suspension click-clack/squeaks intermittently (the first noise I had reported).
WRT to all other noises, I still hear them and they are considered to be NORMAL by Nissan:

whining noise from steering pump (temporarily fixed) drumming noise from brakes (replaced rear brake pads and sound is still there) Obnoxious fuel slosh/clonk noise RPM acts erractically from time to time Display screen/monitor goes blank every now and then when screen is set to music bluetooth doesn't function properly. I took a big loss but it was worth every penny. I hated driving the car and was angry all the time. I hope everything works out for you and they are able to fix the car. |

I also cut my losses. After the CVT issue among other things, I sold the Altima and bought a 2013 Camry Hybrid and couldn't be happier!!!

Good for you. Right after I traded in the vehicle, I went to Edmunds and read some of the consumer reviews on the new Nissan Altima wasn't suprised to read a lot of complaints. While you can't avoid that certain ones will have problems, it suprised me how many people were so unhappy with their Altimas. Shame on Nissan.. Oh well! Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore..

2013 Altima S -Whining Noise
Add one more to the list. I only have 200 miles and started to hear the same whining noise. Took it to the dealership and the service manager and mechanic said "Another One", this is normal to them and not me. I will have to see what the sales manager has to say. Any other suggestions for taking the car back to the dealership for something more reliable?

computer Module
Nissan 2013 Sedan has given me issues with the speedometer icons lighting up on the module. the check engine icon lights up, the air bag light icon goes off and on, indicating air bag is always off. At one time; all the lighting turned off while driving (very frighting). I have taken the car into a Nissan dealership several times regarding problem and techs say car is fine/ no problem detected (I have pictures as proof ). I am so upset, I need someone to guide as to how I can go about getting another car or filing possibly "a lemon". Car has 11,000 miles, the problem began a month after purchase. Need help before warranty expires.
