There is a conflict on the DTC P1273 definition given by auto zone vs. the OBDII definition and the one found on service manual. The OBDII and Manual are in agreement so auto zone is incorrect.

Default Update

Hey Guys,

Update on my issue.. I had the head gasket replaced..drove the car for a week.. no more radiator fluid top up required as well as the radiator fluid is not turning brown and frothy anymore..but the code is back 1273.. as well as I now have a new code P1612 ..

I am guessing that the local garage that worked on the car did not do the proper erase procedure hence the code came back for P1273.. and as for P1612.. once I tried to use my other 06 Altima (I have both 05 and 06 Altima) key bymistake.. the ignition didnot turn but my guess is that cos I did enter a non programmed key in the ignition and thts why it threw the code P1612.

Any comments/help.. ?

Try using your original key turn the key on for 5 seconds and then off for 10 Do it 3 time DO NOT START THE CAR UNTIL THE THIRD TIME! and it should reset the code.
About 1273 read my post above to clear the data!

P1610 to P1615 - is your NATS (Nissan Anti-Theft System). When you used the wrong key I'm sure you tried to crank the engine at least 3x, after that ECM put car in lockdown. I hope "ritter" suggestion works, otherwise you need to tow your car to dealer and bring all your keys for that car as they need to be initialized (programmed) again.

I only tried to crank it once.. car is still running with the original key.. it never went into lockdown mode...after I erased the code.. it back again.. both the codes..

YOU MUST FIX YOUR FIRST CODES FIRST!
TO CLEAR THE SELF-LEARNING DATA

Without CONSULT-II
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
3. Disconnect mass air flow sensor harness connector, and restart
and run engine for at least 5 seconds at idle speed.
4. Stop engine and reconnect mass air flow sensor harness connector.
5. Make sure DTC P0102 is displayed.
6. Erase the DTC memory.

7. Make sure DTC P0000 is displayed.
8. Run engine for at least 10 minutes at idle speed or drive for a short distance
Hope it will work for you!

6.1) Sit in the driver's seat.
6.2) Turn the ignition key to the ON position and wait three seconds. (Do not start the car.)
6.3) Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal five times in less than five seconds.
6.4) Wait exactly seven seconds. Fully depress the accelerator pedal for ten seconds until the SES light flashes.
6.5) Release the accelerator pedal and start counting flashes to obtain the four-digit trouble code.

*****How to read the code:*****
Long flashes (0.6 seconds) indicate the first digit of the code; count the blinks one through nine and write down the first digit. (Ten blinks indicates a zero.)
The next three digits follow in turn in the same fashion except with faster blinks (0.3 second) and a 1.0-second pause between digits.

The ECM code repeats intself until you turn the ignition key to the OFF position, at which point the ECM resets itself to standard get-in-and-drive-the-car mode.
You can look up the trouble codes in the ESM/FSM; there's a bunch of them. In the ESM, refer to page EC-639.
Additionally, if you get four blinks of ten (0000), the ECM is indicating no malfunction.
******* *********** *******
6.6) Final step to erase the code..
You can clear the code (and the annoying SES light) by holding down the accelerator pedal for more than 10 seconds while the SES light is blinking. When you release the pedal, the ECM erases the trouble code(s).

3 days.. No code yet.. ..
But I think I would be sure that the problem is solved only if the code doesn't show up for the next 4 days.. Cos in the past I have had the code back in 2-3 days..

Default P1273 Nightmare

I have a P1273 code on my 05 Altima. Changed both O2 sensors, and replaced cat. Still have P1273. Replaced MAF sensor. Still have P1273.

I read through TSB NTB06-039a on this site. Can anyone tell me exactly what is changed with the re-programming that this TSB mentions?

Any help would be appreciated.

since you replaced the O2 sensors, check the link below for other causes of the code and possible fixes. for future reference, at the bottom of each page is the link to obd-engines codes.com. when you have the trouble code just enter and click search to get the definition.

All has been checked and verified good by a local Nissan dealer. They did not have an answer. I've tried re-doing the learning process as stated in another thread. No luck. Nissan said my ECM may have to be re-programmed. I found this in TSB NTB06-039a. Not sure what exactly what the re-programming does. Do you know? Its annoying because Nissan should know there is a problem since there is a TSB on it. I have read MANY threads within Nissanhelp, but I can not find a fix for this other than to re-program. P1273 is such a generic code that it has made it a major ordeal to pinpoint the problem. After $1000 worth of changes, its time to back off and ask for help. HELP?
