Question Please Help!!! My 2003 Altima Feels like engine has blown

I just rolled 84,000 miles on my altima. My CEL light recently came on and code is Catalyst code, however, my car has NEVER ran like it has been in last week. My gas mileage has been cut in half, as of 2 days ago it dowsnt want to go above 70mph, and when I floor pedal the RPM's fly all way up but vehicle goes NOWHERE!! Also now hearing a noise that sounds like a heat shield thats loose but coming from Manifold area. I know having a clogged or bad catalytic converter can cause drivability issues and gas issues.....but have never experienced a cat causing this many problems this quickly. So hopefully someone out there has experienced this and can give me some insight. Is it the Cam sensor again? Is it really all because of the Cat? Or should i get block test done cuz engine is gone?

Thanks, Jams

At the bottome of the page is the link to obd engine codes. Open the link and enter your catalyst code to get the definition and possible causes. You could have one or more leaky injectors. Too much unburn fuel expelled at the exhaust can damage your CAT. Also do visual inspection to be sure no damage to your fuel line.

You are at the cusp of replacing your O2 sensors and also inspect your spark plugs after you resolve the issue. It might be covered with soot but still good after a good cleaning.

I would have a compression test done. 2003 wasn't a very good year for the QR25DE; you may find yourself needing a catalytic converter AND an engine!
