Default Rear ended!!!

Hey Guys,

My first post on this forum hope you guys can lend a hand on my problem..

Got rear ended at a stop light yesterday by the car behind me and the took off. I tried to drive but my car would'nt engage into drive or reverse. When I put it in drive or reverse it rolls but wont engage.

2003 Nissan Altima 2.5s

Thanks to all.

Do it hold in park. Possible impact mayhave damaged the shift linkage. Or disengaged the linkage either on the trans or shiftor. Have someone move the shiftor while you look to see if it is moving on the trans.

Thanks for the reply..

Yes it holds on park but not in drive or reverse. I jacked the car up, started it and put it in drive or reverse and I can manually turn the wheel forward and backwards... When I put it in gear I can hear the transmission make a wizzing sound which didn't make before.. I think this is beyond my abilities so I am probably going to put a claim to my insurance and have them fix it. I'm sure it's going to take more than $500.00 to fix this problem. Thoughts please.
