Hello,
I'm experiencing an issue with my 2005 Altima. I skimmed through the thread that there and they are talking about crankshaft and/or camshaft senor. I went to Autozone and the error readings were: the same as P0335 and P0725. My friend is an "alley" mechanic and he replaced the crankshaft censor and the light went off and so he didn't put in the vehicle speed sensor. The car was fine for 3 days and then the service engine soon light came on again and problem returned. My two questions: 1. Is the crankshaft and the camshaft the same thing? 2. Is there anyway you can direct me to a picture that shows exactly where he can locate the vehicle speed sensor? Sincerely, Antwon |

Mooki33,
Did you ask your friend if the sensor looked metal or plastic? If he has installed the same plastic version then it can once again fail. You usually get two different codes for the Crankshaft Position Sensor. The P0335 and P0725 which will correct itself once you have installed the correct sensor. I have ordered my Camshaft Position Sensor (same sensor) through Discount Body Parts for only $26 which is far cheaper than the OE version (Plastic) which runs around $65+. The CrankShaft Position Sensor and CamShaft Position Sensor are the same, but the CrankShaft Position Sensor (Located at the back of the firewall) is much harder to install than the CamShaft Position Sensor (Located on the valve covers). -Metal version http://i2.frsimg.com/images/detailed..._QR25DE_02.jpg -Plastic version which is very unreliable http://images.gasgoo.com/MiMgIzUwMzg...3731-al660.jpg Last edited by NissanAltima01; 09-06-2012 at 10:32 PM. |

Thanks for the response. I will ask him. What about the other question: Where exactly is the engine speed sensor located? ETA: I remember looking at the part and I'm fairly certain that it was plastic and now I don't know what to do. I mean do I order the metal one and hope that fixes the issue or do I have him install the engine speed sensor tomorrow and see if that resolves the issue? I was told at Autozone that the codes meant I needed Engine Speed Sensor and Crankshaft, so that's what I bought :-/ Last edited by Mooki33; 09-07-2012 at 04:48 AM. |

Mooki33,
I'm not sure about the location of the Engine Speed Sensor because i had the same issue and the "metal version" of the Crankshaft Position Sensor fixed both codes. You can try your luck with the Engine Speed Sensor, but if your friend has already installed the "plastic version" then it might of gotten defected again. Good Luck! I think this is probably the best video on youtube so far on how to change the CPS on a Nissan Altima. I'm actually surprised that this was your second time replacing it since the first time you had already replaced the defected "plastic version" with the new "metallic version". I would definitely put this video in the DIY section on this site. Good job!

Even though it was metallic, it didn't work well. Do not buy aftermarket! Save time and money! Get OEM from dealer or eBay. How do I post it in DIY? I'm still newbie on this forum... Last edited by dr_UMMER; 03-09-2013 at 03:55 PM. |

I'm having the exact issue, only I had the crank shaft sensor replaced and my car still keeps doing the same thing, not to mention it keeps spitting out the same codes after replacement. P0335 and I believe P0725. should I have replaced both? I have an 06 Altima

I have a 2006 as well i fixed my problem i replaced my sensor and i found out that the first sensor had oil all inside of it. What i had to do was clean the inside of the hole it goes in and clean the wire harness itself. After all that i plugged in and bam it was fixed. I also found out i was having misfires so i fixed those and all problems solved.

I have an 07 altima. The 2 codes I get are po335 and po335 PD. We have replaced the crankshaft position sensor but still having the same problem. No other codes are showing. Now it won't start, cranks several times but doesn't actually start.
