Default Intelligent key warning light/car won't start

It is a altima hybrid, but the car doesn't even ask me to press the brake to start the car. It is stuck in "Lock" and the intelligent key warning light comes on and stays on when I push the brake.
The manual seems to point to a wheel lock issue (though I can hear the wheel lock mechanism working, at least when I press the brake or open the door)

I've read about IPDM and ECM relay issues on other Nissans that may cause similar issues. Has anyone encountered this issue? How do I know if the wheel lock is working right?

Ok, got it towed to the dealer and they said the part is on backorder and could take a month to get.

The part is supposedly available at a couple online Nissan parts places. I read the service bulletin NTB10-053 and it says after replacing the lock, you must remove the negative battery lead for 30 sec., then insert i-key in slot and register I-Keys.

My question is, is the battery disconnect and i-key registration necessary for the car to work with a new steering lock? I should be able to replace the lock myself, but I obviously don't have the Nissan equipment to register the i-key.

You have to register the keys and the lock after it is replaced.

Default Keys

Man, that makes me happy for a good old plain cut key! I'm not a big fan of these "intelligent" keys. They sound like nothing but trouble.
