Idle relearn after unplugging throttle body
2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S A/T 200k miles
My husband replaced my intake gasket set and valve cover gasket. No problems with car before this replacement other than rough idle when in gear and stopped to the point of almost stalling down. I have learned from reading the forums here that you must do the "idle relearn procedure" or pay Nissan to "reprogram". We tried numerous times to do the idle relearn and it did NOT work. I finally took it to Nissan and after having my car 5.5 hours and trying twice to reprogram the idle, it would not hold. They could not tell me a specific problem other than POSSIBLE bad throttle chamber, TPS, or throttle body, OR bad ECU. So I bought a reman new throttle body, and again tried the relearn process numerous times and it will not work. So I am heading BACK to Nissan today, for them to try and reprogram THIS new throttle body. In the event that it, again, will not hold the settings, besides the ECU being bad, is there ANY other trings I should replace or mention to them or something? I do not have the money to be throwing around replacing parts that are NOT bad. PLEASE, help. All comments appreciated, and I would like some advice or input ASAP, before I go waste more money with/at Nissan. Thanks BUNCHES!!!! |

Wanted to give an update. They still could not get it to relearn, however they did some tricks with the injectors and trying to bypass something to trick the car, idk, and it is now close to where is needs to be idle. No vaccuum leaks were found, no more surging, and it is idle at 700ish in gear and 1kish in park/nuetral. It runs like a cadallic to me, but they say I still need to replace the ecm, ecu, basically the computer, because now it is throwing the code p0507 for the Idle speed control. I found a used ecm for 130.00,Nissan told me I would have to come there and reprogram the computer and ALL keys to the car, once I replace it. I think it is running great and hope it last. I don't care about the code, or the light staying on, it's not surging, shifting oddly, or reving up and down, or idle real high, so I am HAPPY!!! to say the least, though frustrated that it is still not fixed realistically, but as long as it holds what it is currently doing and doesn't revert back, I am going to drive it until something else goes wrong. Thankfully, each time the dealership has only charged me half of the 120.00 since it will not relearn, and of course I forked out 115.00 for a reman throttle bdy, that obviously was not the issue. Oh well, at 200k, it probably wasn't a bad thing to have a "newer" throttle body anyway! I will post more updates if something changes.

I cleaned a throttle body on 2005 Altima 2.5 and when I started the car it was idling very fast. Between 1000rpm and 1500rpm. It was actually jumping from 1000 to 1500 constantly when in park. I tried the procedure listed in service procedure several times but it did not work. I read in the forum to change the procedure just a little bit. Here is the procedure that worked for me.
warm up engine to normal operating temp. turn off all equipment such as defrosters, a/c radio etc 1. turn key switch off for 10 seconds 2. insure accelerator pedal is fully released turn ignition switch on for 3 sec. 3. with ignition still on depress accelerator fully 5 times within 5 seconds 4. wait 7 seconds then fully depress accelerator for approx 20 sec or until the MIL or service engine soon light stops blinking and turns on. 5. release the accelerator within seconds after service engine soon light comes on. 6. start engine within the mentioned 3 seconds.. I did it as soon as service engine soon light came of solid. and the idle dropped to about 700 rpms in park. Drove around block all well so far. stopped and started engine and relearned was maintained. NOTE: Service Engine Soon light must be off and all faults cleared before this procedure works.
