2003 Altima Door Issues

Hey all,
I'm new to this forum, but I'm hoping that I might find the help I am looking for. The front driver's side door on my 2003 Altima won't open from the inside. The power locks work fine; the power windows work fine; and you can open it from the outside with no problems. But if you are inside the car, the handle just pulls back but does nothing. No noises, no resistance..nothing. Has anyone heard of this issue? Is there a seperate cable inside the door for the interior handle (I would rather not take apart the door panel if that's not the case)? I'm at a loss, and it kind of sucks to have to roll my window down just to get out, then turn the car back on to roll it up! Any suggestions on what I can try would be really appreciated.

Yes there is a cable that runs from the inside latch to the lock.Very easy to install.Dealer part.

Sometimes on the inner handle a small platic tab on the inside of the handle breaks off and gets stuck behind the handle. If you pull the door panel off the piece usually falls out. You may notice that the inner handle goes in a little farther than it did before but it will still work. It could also be that the cable is just disconnected from the handle.
