2002 2.5s groan or moan
Sigh... I've been all over the web tonight looking for the answer. I have a groan/moan in my left front wheel. I'm thinking it's a wheel bearing, because I had the tires rotated today and the problem is still there. The Haynes manual doesn't say much except "to replace the bearing, take it a service professional" because the bearing is pressed into the steering knuckle.
Questions for the group: 1. Can the wheel bearing be successfully removed from the wheel hub or am I looking at purchasing a new hub as well? It looks like I have to take the whole steering knuckle into the shop. 2. Assuming I buy the bearing online, do i need to order any other replacement parts for this job (bearing seal)? should i order a bearing for the front right wheel as well? 3. Will I need an alignment if I remove the steering knuckle from the car? I also am considering replacing the front shocks (last service, the folks said they were leaking) and I figure if I have to get the car aligned, I might as well replace the shocks (dang struts!). Any Ideas? Scheb |

The bearing can be replaced by itself. But they are pressed in. So unless you have a press at home, take it to a mechanic.
I had mine replaced and did not need a seal. Make sure you do it, if the bearing is really bad its dangerous to be driving around |
