Before you spend any money on it, get your headers/cats checked to make sure your engine isn't dying or dead already. Those 2.5's are dropping like flies. After that, I'd look into the cold air intakes and aftermarket headers (check local laws).

Question

Don't laugh at me, but i haven't a clue what " headers/cats" are ?

I purchased a 2005 Altima 2.5s a few months back, i did complete tune up after purchase, i replaced

1. All rotors and brake pads
2. Air Filter
3. Cabin Air Filter
4. 4 Spark Plugs
5. Engine Oil Change ( On-going)
6. Transmission Fluid Change
7. Coolant Flush
8. Replaced Drive Belt
9. fixed a transmission problem with hard shift.
10.Changed All 4 tires, brand new!

My car runs great and I always stay on top of all repairs and maintenance. Please tell me what " headers/cats" are, what they do, and how to get them checked. Additionally, take a look at my list above, did i miss anything maintenance wise?

Cool

Thanks man! Everything on your list looks like everything they told me at the dealer and also they told me the fuel filter! And the headers and cat are part of the exhaust system.

i thinks its the cat that causes the problem. i believe its because the cat become bad and the particals end up in the engine which ruin the cylinder walls

The "cats" come apart and the metal is sucked back into the engine and destroying the rings. A bad problem on the altimas.

When you say that the cats are causing the problem that means both cats? I thought it was only the little one next to the header not the one under the car.

Sorry for not being clear. Ment to say the front cat(comming off the header). If you are going to check the cat disconnect it from the header and let it just hang down. Look inside and you should see what looks like a honey comb material. This MUST look complete and not in anyway broken or deformed.Bad news if it is...

Oh ok then cause I am getting aftermarket headers to get rid of the first cat but I am keeping the stock downpipe with the other cat and now I know I dont have to worry of the cat in the downpipe. Thanks!

If your pre-cat (the integral one in the header pipe) is defective...get rid of the car. Now. (Unless you have less than 8yrs/80kmi then hotfoot it into the dealer and get your engine replaced).
