Default TPMS

I just purchased steel wheels for winter use on my 09 coupe and 4 tpms from the dealer. I had to purchase the nuts separately and the parts person also sold me 4 grommets which he said are for the nuts. I checked out my service manual and it makes no mention of a grommet being installed with the nut, the only grommet is on the sensor stem itself and it comes with the sensor. So does the nut need this grommet or do I just install the nut and be done with it?

Thanks,

Gary

Why did you purchase the sensors. Here most customers just buy the rubber stems and leave the light on. But to answer your question if you purchased new tire pressure sensors the valves already have the seals or grommets on them therefore nothing else is needed only the nuts to secure them to the wheel.

That's what I thought, however, one dealer told me the grommet was needed with the nut and another said it was not required. The reason I purchased the sensors is I don't like having an idiot light on.

Thanks,

You do know that you have to program the sensors every time you swap the wheels right?

Yes I am aware of that, in fact, I bought the ATEQ Quickset device, so I can change the tires and update the computer at the same time therefore eliminating a trip to the dealer.

I read through the owners manual for that device and it says you have to input the sensor id. I didn't see where it says how to obtain that info.

You obtain the sensor id from a tag on the sensor. It's an 8 digit serial number you input into the device which is then loaded into the computer in the car.
