2002-2003 NISSAN ALTIMA; VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN HALOGEN HEADLAMP GROUND PLATE KIT
Nissan has determined that on some 2002 and 2003 model year Nissan Altima vehicles, there is a possibility that a low beam Halogen headlamp bulb may fail to illuminate due to a poor ground contact.

To prevent this from occurring, Nissan is conducting a Service Campaign to inspect the headlamp assemblies and then install a halogen terminal ground plate kit and, if needed, install a new low beam Halogen bulb. In a limited number of cases, the headlamp assembly may require replacement.

2002, 2005, 2006 ALTIMA, SENTRA; VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN ECM REPROGRAM (2.5L)
Nissan has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 2002 and 2005-2006 model year Nissan Altima and Sentra vehicles equipped with the 2.5 liter engine. On some of these vehicles there is a possibility that the engine might stop running while being driven due to the program in the Electronic Control Module (engine computer). If the engine stops running while driving, this could result in a crash without warning. To prevent this potential condition, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to reprogram the Electronic Control Module.

2002-2003 NISSAN ALTIMA, 2002-2004 SENTRA; VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN ENGINE EXHAUST PIPE HANGER PIN AND PRE-CATALYST
Nissan has determined that some 2002-2003 model year Altima and 2002-2004 model year Sentra vehicles equipped with the 2.5 liter engine have defects that relate to motor vehicle safety. For 2002-2003 model year Altimas, there is a possibility that the exhaust pipe hanger pin may catch debris from the road that could be ignited by contact with the catalytic converter and cause a fire. In addition, for 2002-2003 model year Altimas and 2002-2004 model year Sentras, there is a possibility that certain engine operating conditions may cause damage to the pre-catalyst. Material from inside a damaged pre-catalyst could enter the engine and result in increased oil consumption. If the engine oil level is not checked on a periodic basis and drops below the low level, and the driver continues to operate the vehicle ignoring noticeable engine noise, engine damage may occur which could result in a fire.

2002-2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, 2004-2005 MAXIMA; VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER REPLACEMENT / BUSHING REPLACEMENT AND SEALING
On some model year 2002-2005 Nissan Altima and 2004-2005 Nissan Maxima vehicles, there is a possibility that corrosion of the rear sub-frame may occur. Corrosion is most likely in cold climates where heavy salting of roads is common practice in freezing conditions. A mixture of road salt and water can promote corrosion in the rear sub-frame bushings of some vehicles. In severe cases, cracking of the rear sub-frame may occur, which may result in a knocking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The performance or handling characteristics of the vehicle are not affected and it is safe to drive the vehicle.

2000-2003 SENTRA, MAXIMA, 2002 ALTIMA, 2003 MURANO, 350Z; VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN ENGINE SENSORS
Nissan has determined that some 2000-2003 model year Nissan vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. The engine might stop running while being driven if the crank position sensor or cam position sensor fails. This may also result in the "Service Engine Soon" light coming on or reduced engine power. If the engine stops running while driving, this could result in a crash without warning.

2002-2003 NISSAN ALTIMA; VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN FUEL PUMP SCREEN
Nissan has determined that in areas of the country where extreme cold temperatures can occur in the winter, there is a possibility that moisture in the gas tank may freeze and form ice crystals. These ice crystals may block the suction opening of the fuel pump, which is located in the gas tank. This may prevent the supply of fuel to the engine and cause the engine to stop, which could result in a crash without warning. To prevent this condition from occurring, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to install a screen at the suction opening of the fuel pump to prevent ice crystals from blocking the opening.

2002 NISSAN ALTIMA, XTERRA; VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN DRIVER’S AIR BAG HARNESS CONNECTOR CLIPS
Nissan has determined that the electrical connector for the driver air bag may come loose. If the connector comes loose, the supplemental air bag warning light will flash on and off. If this occurs and is not taken in for repair, the driver air bag will not inflate in the event of a crash. To prevent this condition from occurring, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to check the electrical connector for the driver air bag to make sure it is secure and install a metal retaining clip on the connector.

2002 NISSAN ALTIMA; VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN AIR BAG SENSOR REPLACEMENT
Nissan recently learned that one of the sensors for the air bag system installed on Nissan Altima vehicles does not work as well as expected in a rare, high-speed off-set crash situation. We improved the sensor and are using it in all new Altimas that are now being manufactured.
To maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and confidence in the 2002 Altima by assuring optimum performance of the airbag sensor, Nissan wants to replace the sensor on these vehicles.
